Assassins Rules
Assassins is a game of hide and seek turned search and destroy. You “kill” people by shooting them with a water gun or “weapon” which could be any water projectile. This particular game will involve team play in which your “Team” has another whole team they must kill. You are an assassin because you have targets. Your target team has their own target team they must kill and so on. The goal is to eventually be the last team standing. Once you “kill” a target you should notify the judges of your kill so they can confirm it. Once there is one team, the surviving members win the second place prizes. That team then plays each other individually for the first place prize. Assassins generally forces people to get to know their targets. ICC wide this will be more prevalent and hopefully you’ll get to know new people better. That is if you don’t get killed right away. There are safe zones which mean you can’t be “killed” on any city block with an ICC house on it or inside the threshold of any building. Meaning you can’t be killed at home, work, school, or at the office paying rent. You may be killed on the way of course. For those that work, study, or pay rent outside, be careful. So, here’s the rules…
Everyone throws in $3 each to play.
We will make a list of all teams and assign people if they have no preference. Each team will then be given a rival team and everyone on it becomes available targets.
You may only use a water gun or water projectile that is easily identifiable as a water weapon to “kill”. (i.e.- water guns, water balloons, water hoses) A cup of water is not a weapon. We encourage people to use water balloons or water guns. If someone kills you with a less then obvious weapon you may dispute the kill.
You may only “kill” your target or anyone else outside of a Safe Zone. A safe zone is any city block that has an occupied ICC house on it. Streets are not included. The street begins at the curb. Alleys are included. (i.e. behind Seneca, New Guild, French House) The interior of any building is also a safe zone.
The kill must be made outdoors. Porches are considered outdoors. The killed must be made under the stars or sun. Both the assassin and the target must be outside all safe zones for the kill to count. If any part of you is within the threshold of a portal or on the city block, you are safe. For example one foot on the curb is safe or one hand inside the door.
You may only “shoot” your targets or one of your assassins, or anyone pointing their weapon at you in a threatening manner outside the safe zones.
All disputes about whether someone was in a safe zone, was pointing their weapon at you, or “Didn’t hit” you, will be determined by the judge, with disputed rulings going to a full three judge panel. The three judge panel's ruling is final.
If you shoot someone that is not a target, assassin, or someone pointing their weapon at you, you are automatically “dead”. Contact a judge as soon as possible in this case.
A kill is determined if one shoots someone squarely on any part of their body. This includes hands, feet, and any article of clothing or accessory on your person (backpacks, body armor, latex)
Note, that if there is a dispute about who shot who first (i.e. - in a shootout), there are three possible outcomes: one person dies, both die, and neither die. (Keep in mind that this is a rare situation)
It is encouraged that people work out their own disputes fairly and utilize the judges rarely.
If there are multi-party kills, you must keep track of who kills who. Individuals are credited with kills. It is quite possible to have a confusing battle in the streets with no known outcome. Kills are only official when you report them so if both parties agree (say you killed each other simultaneously) you may continue playing.
Cars, with the windows rolled up, are essentially safe.
You may not make anonymous kills. (wearing a mask so the enemy doesn’t find out who you are) The killed have to be able to identify you in order to confirm they were killed by a legitimate assassin.
Good faith is the name of the game here. If you are hit and know it please play accordingly. Likewise on the killers. Please don’t report questionable hits that the other party denies, unless you are absolutely sure you hit them. Please be good sports…
Because the safe zones are large and include buildings you must make your kills outdoors. This means you need to get people coming and going rather then simply going to someone’s work and shooting them. You have to know when they get off, wait for them outside, and surprise them. Team play allows several people to “stake out” a work place, or school building. Investigation is much more important here. It is hoped that the expanded safe zones will raise the level of play and that teams will offset the possible stagnation that happens in assassins. Instead of going after one individual you have a whole team to kill…
The winning team will split exactly one half of the pot amongst the surviving members. The other half of the pot goes to the winner of the internal team game.
The internal team game will be like assassins but its everyman for themselves. Everyone can kill everyone as per the above rules.
As of May 31st there will be no safe zones at all! Meaning if the game has stalled and there are a lot people still playing, a bloodbath could ensue. The only exception to this is if a team has already won the main game. The internal team game can last into summer.
Anyone leaving town (i.e. in summer after graduation/finals) is disqualified from the game. You may not leave town for over a week and still be considered playing. It’s not fair for obvious reasons…
