  • Who it goes to: Most people in ICC. New members are added when they join ICC. Anyone can unsubscribe if they want to get off, so it doesn't go to quite everyone.
  • What it's for: Announcements and discussions of ICC-related issues, with a limit of one post per day per person.
  • What it's NOT for: Any non-ICC topic, even if you think it would be of interest to ICC-ers.

ICC-wide lists:

House lists:

What are these lists for?
Each house has an email discussion list so that members can talk about house issues, and so that ICC can communicate to all the members. Mail sent to a house address goes to everyone in that house. At the moment, anyone can send mail a whole house, but if members start getting inundated with mail we'll restrict posting privileges to house members and ICC board/staff.
What are these lists NOT for?
These lists are NOT for mailing everyone in ICC at once. Don't send to all eight addresses in the same email. If you want to send to everyone in ICC, use one of the Forum lists.
What's the address for each house?
To send mail to the whole house, the user ids are: arrakismembers, avalonmembers, frenchmembers, heliosmembers, hocmembers, newguildmembers, royalmembers, senecamembers.
Rules for the lists
Your house Trustee serves as list moderator and will deal with any problems on the lists. Unless your Trustee comes up with other rules, the only hard and fast rule is that there's a limit of two posts per day, per person. This ensures that members aren't barraged with a flood of email.
Subscribe/Unsubscribe

Staff adds new members to the Forum lists and to house lists when they join ICC. Members who missed getting on a list somehow (or who have a new address) can get their address on their house list by going to the subscriber page for their house: Arrakis, Avalon, Eden, French, Helios, HoC, New Guild, Royal, Seneca, and can get on the forum lists here: iccForum, openForum.

Members are not automatically removed from lists when they leave ICC, and it's no one's job to take anyone off the lists. In keeping with the co-op principle of self-empowerment, members should remove themselves when they want off a list. Members can use any of the addresses listed above to get off a list, as well as to get on it.

Digests
To reduce your email load, you can choose to receive all the day's posts in one big email, rather than receiving each post separately. To choose this digest option, go to the subscriber page mentioned above.
Anti-Spam
Automated programs called SpamBots harvest email addresses from web pages on the net. To keep our discussion lists from being targets for spammers, don't post your house's address anywhere online (such as guestbooks), and don't put it on any web page, unless you know how to script it to hide it from spambots.
Trustee: Updating house officers' email addresses
When your house officers change, the house trustee should notify the office of the new names & emails, and the office will put it into the system. Keeping the office apprised of your current officer names and contact info is an important part of the trustee's job.
