The Basics of Our House
Avalon is a 22-member house located in a quiet residential neighborhood on the north side of campus near several parks, pubs, and restaurants. Members share a great sense of community. Avalon consists of a large dormitory style building, a small two-person cottage, and a separate kitchen house. The house features the biggest parking lot in ICC with about 15 spaces, central air in the main house, large living areas for hanging out together and playing pool, and dorm-style bathrooms. Avalon does not allow pets, and is completely non-smoking except in designated outside areas
Most of us live in the main building, which has central air conditioning, a large TV/living/meeting room, and one large co-ed bathroom for each floor (one large single on the first floor has a shower and bathroom in it). The two-person cottage is adjacent to the main building and is complete with its own bathroom. The kitchen house boasts a large kitchen, pantry area, laundry facilities, and a dining room. There is a recreational area with a quality pool table. This building has served us very well for both our day-to-day activities and for the occasional party.
Our Community Structure
Avalon is a fun, yet studious environment. We offer a vegetarian main dish at dinners. Avalon does not allow pets.
House members are required to perform 4-5 hours of household labor per week, attend mandatory bi-weekly house meetings, and to provide one day's worth of labor for a labor holiday once a semester.
Avalon's amenities include a communal computer and projector in the living room of the main building. We have central heating and air conditioning. We have wireless internet access in all of our buildings. The pool table is in the kitchen house. Our kitchen is stocked with solid equipment and a substantial array of cookbooks, and we have a garden where we grow fresh herbs and sometimes vegetables. Our quiet hours in the main house are Sunday-Thursday: midnight to 9am and Friday-Saturday: 2am to noon; our separate kitchen house provides a great space to be loud during quiet hours. Meals are served Sunday through Thursday around 7pm.
The people are the best asset we have at Avalon. Our current group of members is intelligent, interesting, fun and mature, so we all tend to get along very well. We look forward to meeting you and having you as a part of our community!
